Weight loss guidance offered at Diet Center

by Beckye Randall

The nation’s obesity problem is not news. Most of us fight the Battle of the Bulge daily, mostly with mixed results, as obesity rates in Snohomish County continue to spiral upwards.

Kathryn and Tom CantwellTom and Kathryn Cantwell are dedicated to helping local residents in their quest for health. They own and operate Diet Center, which recently moved to an expanded location at 1068 State Avenue in Marysville.

The national Diet Center organization, which franchises its programs and services, has been a leader in the weight management field for over 30 years. Local consultants use a comprehensive approach that was designed with health and nutrition guidelines from the American Heart Association, the American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetes Association.

“We are passionate about the health of the residents of Marysville,” said Kathryn Cantwell. “Our mission is to bring more and more people to wellness every day by using the products and services of Diet Center.”

The Diet Center offers several unique programs designed to help customers lose weight and keep it off without sacrificing nutritional needs. Services include one-on-one counseling and support, behavior modification and nutritional education. The Diet Center carries a variety of products designed to help clients reach and maintain their ideal weight.

The center’s nutritional programs rely on a high protein, lower carbohydrate formula for weight loss. Diet Center's 21-Day Diet puts clients into “ultimate fat-burning mode,” according to the national Web site. This diet is based on the theory of thermogenesis, which recognizes that certain foods, taken in combination and supplemented by specific nutrients, spices and herbs, increase the ability of the body to burn fat and suppress the appetite.

But the diet regimen is only one part of the puzzle, according to Cantwell. Individual, personal support from your Diet Center counselor is a powerful tool in the dieter’s arsenal. From weekly weigh-ins to private consultations, the Diet Center’s professional staff members are supportive allies in the weight battle.

At the Marysville location, the Cantwells have recently added Virginia Munoz to their staff. Munoz, a successful dieter and coach, is a “great asset” to the growing business.

Tom Cantwell is a teacher in the Marysville School District. The Cantwells live in Marysville with their three sons.

Diet Center’s hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday and Saturday. For more information, phone (360) 658-8670.
