Arlington students focus on respect
The Arlington Public Schools Board of Directors was recently tasked with choosing the winner of the 2008 Respect Program Poster Contest from over 100 submissions from students grades K-12 from the entire district.
The winning poster, created by 7th grader Naheed Arang from Haller Middle School, will be used as the logo for the Respect Program. It will also be featured on t-shirts, promotional materials and the cover of the Arlington Public Schools calendar.
Superintendent Linda Byrnes presented Arang with a certificate in her classroom and called her submission a “powerful message, and one we want all students to understand. Not only that they should be respectful, but in Arlington schools they can expect to be respected.”
"Respect" is a student-run program that began in 2004, encouraging students to focus on positively impacting their school and community by developing activities and events that both educate and empower others to prevent harassment, intimidation, bullying and racism.
