Career and Tech Ed gets an official week

Mayor Dennis Kendall and Andrea RasmussenThe week of February 11-17 is Career and Technical Education Week in Marysville schools. In a recent proclamation, Mayor Dennis Kendall encouraged citizens to become familiar with the Career and Tech Ed programs, which are offered through the Marysville School District to promote individual work skills and hands-on productivity.

Career and technical education provides a school-to-careers connection that gives high school students experience in practical, meaningful applications of basic skills such as reading, writing and mathematics, coupled with learning skills in specific trades and vocations, many of which are essential in today’s more specialized labor market and economy, Kendall says.

Kendall, City Councilmember Donna Wright and Community Information Officer Doug Buell serve on the district’s General Advisory Council for Career and Technical Education (CTE). Carol Davis is the district’s CTE Director.

Examples of career fields within the program include marketing, business education, automotive technology, sports medicine, video production, culinary arts, family and consumer science, computer assisted design, and agriculture. The district program is also closely connected with the Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center in Everett.
