Girl Scouts tackle conservation project

Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 50401 On October 27, Girl Scouts from Marysville and Everett celebrated 95 years of dedication to protecting the environment by helping restore Meadow Creek in Marysville for Save Our Sound 2007.

Under the direction of Scott Moore and Lily Wescott of the Snohomish County Water Surface Management and Native Plant Department, Girl Scout members, leaders, family and friends worked together to help preserve and restore the fragile existence of Meadow Creek by planting 750 trees.

Girl Scouts Service Unit 211 of Marysville and Troop 50401 participated in the 12th annual event.

Girl Scouts and leaders planted treesSave Our Sound is a community and environmental service campaign that brings Girl Scouts of all ages together, along with leaders and family members, to clean up neighborhood waterways including rivers, lakes, beaches and watersheds while learning how to reduce pollutants that damage the fragile plants and animals that inhabit our region.

By planning and coordinating Save Our Sound 2007, the members of Marysville Girl Scouts Troop 50401 earned community service points toward the organization’s Bronze Medal Award, the highest award that Girl Scouts can earn at the Junior Girl Scout level.

Troop leader Jackie Rojas said, “Our troop members and leaders worked extra hard on this event to ensure that this year’s campaign is as successful as those of previous years.”

Girl Scouts of the USA is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world.

“Our Girl Scouts have a relentless commitment for our community,” Rojas added. That commitment is demonstrated by a variety of service projects, including Save Our Sound 2007.
