Commission positions open in Marysville

The City of Marysville is accepting applications to fill vacancies on two citizen oversight commissions.

To qualify for an open position on the seven-member Marysville Planning Commission, applicants must reside within city limits or the city's urban growth area, which generally mirror Marysville School District boundaries. The term for service expires in August 2011.

The planning commissioners serve as an advisory board to the mayor and City Council on issues such as land use, critical areas and shoreline management planning, and long-range planning issues. The commission meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday each month in City Hall, 1049 State Avenue.

Mayor Dennis Kendall is also seeking citizen nominees to fill a vacancy on the three-member Marysville Civil Service Commission. The chosen candidates would serve a six-year term starting in March.

The Civil Service Commission oversees police department promotions, offers of tenure and various disciplinary actions. The commission adopts civil service rules and regulations that meet civil service system objectives.

Nominees must have resided in Marysville for at least three years prior to appointment to the Commission.

To apply for either opening, send a brief letter of interest to Assistant Administrative Services Director Tracy Jeffries, Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave., Marysville, WA 98270. For the Civil Service Commission position, the letter should also include the applicant’s political affiliation as city and state law require that no more than two commissioners belong to the same party.

Deadline to apply for the Planning Commissioner position is 5 p.m., March 14, 2008. Applications for the Civil Service Commission are due by 5 p.m. March 21. For more information, call (360) 363-8000.
