Students from the University of Washington’s urban design and planning program have been recruited by the City of Arlington to design signage for city entrances. Suggestions will be presented to the City Council at a March 10 council workshop meeting.
Paul Ellis, the city’s capital projects manager, hired UW teacher Jill Sterrett and a group of four students following the successful implementation of a project that helped downtown building owners redesign the façades of their buildings during the Olympic Avenue renovation project.
A preliminary public meeting, held February 13, identified the needs for signage at various entryways and focused on defining the character of Arlington and its surrounding area.
Participants agreed that the challenge is to find and communicate Arlington’s unique identity.
The public is invited to attend the City Council workshop session at 7 p.m. March 10 in the council chambers, 110 E. Third St. in Arlington.
