Young dancers invited to Choreography Lab
Seattle Theatre Group (STG) offers a new program, Young Choreographers Lab, for teens who want to develop and explore their artistic vision as choreographers and dancers. The lab will take place Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m., October 4-November 8, at Century Ballroom on Capitol Hill, 915 E. Pine Street. The cost of the program is $150, with some scholarships available to students on free or reduced lunch programs.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
· Learn first-hand from leading Seattle choreographers
· Create movement style and composition
· Develop individual and group choreography through a collaborative process
· Present work at an informal showing for friends and family
· Gain experience in choreography by giving and receiving constructive feedback
The lead teaching artist for the inaugural year of Young Choreographers Lab is Amy O'Neil, choreographer for locust, a Seattle performance company that combines movement, music and video. Guest choreographers include Donald Byrd (Spectrum Dance Theater), Kristen Cooper (Westlake Dance Center), Mark Haim (University of Washington), and Anne Gilbert (Creative Dance Center).
Young Choreographers Lab is open to serious aspiring dancers, ages 14 to early 20s who are interested in growing as dancers and choreographers. Students interested in participating in the program should download an application form and return it completed to STG's Education and Outreach Department at 911 Pine Street, Seattle, WA 98101 by Friday, September 12, 2008 at 10 a.m.
