Komplex KaiKisar Jones-Fryberg is making a name for himself in the music industry, and the name is Komplex Kai.

Promoted as a "hip hop artist with a purpose," the Tulalip tribal member uses music to convey an indigenous Native American theme of "life on the rez." He is appearing in The Q nightclub at Quil Ceda Creek Casino on June 11, along with Swift Holiday, an emcee/producer from Tacoma, D.J. Defkawn from Mount Vernon, and Or1ginal from Hawaii.

On May 14, Komplex Kai was part of a show at McCaw Hall in Seattle attended by more than 2,000 students from Everett and Seattle as part of the annual Seattle International Children's Festival. Later that month, he took the stage at Seattle's Folklife Festival for a 40-minute show that was called a "mix of compassion and anger" in an appreciative review by Seattle Times writer Andrew Matson.

The 20-year-old local artist has already released three albums, the most recent entitled "What's Done Is Done," and has another in the works.

Quil Ceda Creek Casino is located at 6410-33rd Ave. NE, just off Exit 199 in Tulalip. Tickets to the show are just $5 and can be purchased at the door.
