Practically Perfect Pajamas

By Erik Brooks

($16.00)

Pajamas bookThis children's picture book is a fabulous favorite, with a local author and illustrator who shared with me many insights into the making of the book.

"Practically Perfect Pajamas" is all about Percy, a polar bear who loves to wear his footed pajamas because they keep him clean and warm and dry. The other bears tease him about his outfits, so he thinks that's why they won't play with him. He reluctantly packs them away, wanting their friendship. But they're still mean to him, and now he's cold and miserable and dirty too.

An Arctic fox comes around to tell him how his mood has changed when he gave up his footed pajamas, and they come up with a plan to get his life back in order. While I hate to tell you the ending, it's too good not to share: Percy brings out all his footed pajamas to share with the other bears because he realizes that they're so grumpy all the time because they're cold and tired and dirty.

This is a wonderful book about being different and why you may be better just being yourself.

The illustrations were created from photos the author/illustrator made at the Point Defiance Zoo. Limited autographed copies are available at The Bookworks.
