Original works of art in a variety of styles will be up for bid at the
Arlington Arts Council's sixth annual Fall Into Art fundraising auction, set for October 17 at the Medallion Hotel, 16710 Smokey Pooint Blvd. in Smokey Point.
The auction, which includes a buffet dinner provided by Pacific Rim Supper Club, features a dynamic couple, April and Mike Brown, as auctioneer and emcee.
April Brown is a 17-year veteran auctioneer and fundraising expert for charitable organizations, and director of Whisker City, a feline rescue organization located in Shoreline. Her husband Mike is a popular sportscaster.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with early arrivals greeted with a welcome glass of champagne and the first of a series of raffle prize drawings at 6 p.m. Raffle prizes include dining certificates and theater tickets, among other items.
Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite proposals for public art and entry way signs, a new mission for the local arts council.
"We really need signs at our main entries," said AAC vice president Laura Kuhl. "The arts council is committed to helping the city get that done."
Music by Brighter Days Jazz Trio features Arlington legends, Jeff Swanson, Jim Bassett, Ron Thordarson.
Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., following the closure of the first and second silent auction tables. During the buffet service, Sarah Hegge, Parks, Arts and Recreation Manager for the City of Arlington, with present a slideshow of the city's public art collection and activities. The program includes thoughts by artist Lance Carleton, creator of this year's acquisition, "Flat Tire," now located at the edge of Legion Park along the Centennial Trail in downtown Arlington.
