Northern Departure
Northern Departure bluegrass band features the talents of (L-R) Austin McGregor, Derek Gray, Nick Dumas and Chris Luquette. The band will be featured at the Feb. 19 Hometown Hootenanny.

Get set for some fine finger-pickin' at the Historic Everett Theatre as the February 19 production of Hometown Hootenanny highlights the talents of local bluegrass artists for the monthly live music show.

Titled "Down from the Hills: Bluegrass Traditions," the Hootenanny features Northern Departure, a 4-piece bluegrass band from Brier that is making a highly-anticipated return appearance on the Hometown Hootenanny.

"These young musicians, all under 21 years old, are already incredible musicians," said Scott Randall, president of Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts, the show's producing organization. "Their reputation is growing quickly, and they were even featured at EMP earlier this month."

The band will be performing at many of the established bluegrass festivals in the region this summer, but on February 19, audiences can enjoy the music from the comfort of the Everett Theatre.

Three of the members of Northern Departure -- Nick Dumas, Austin McGregor and Derek Gray -- were part of the popular bluegrass band Three Generations, growing up around stringed instruments and the bluegrass sound. The band's fourth member, Chris Luquette, adds even more polish and energy to the group. Debuting on the Hometown Hootenanny in November 2009, Northern Departure earned an extended standing ovation and audience requests for an encore.

The February 19 show also features high-energy performances by Copperhill, an offshoot of Snohomish's Adagio Players, Money Creek Mining Co., and a group of local bluegrass musicians headed by singer Tammy Christensen.

Advance tickets for the Hometown Hootenanny are priced at $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, students and military personnel, and $5 for kids 12 and under, and are available at the theatre box office at 2911 Colby Avenue in downtown Everett during regular box office hours or by calling (425) 258-6766. Tickets to the show can also be purchased at the door, beginning one hour prior to showtime.

Purchase tickets 24 hours a day online at www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006. Adult ticket prices through BPT have been reduced by $2 each to offset the processing fee, and a special family package of two adult and two child/student tickets (up to age 18) is available online only at the reduced price of $37.50.

Red Curtain Productions is the producing entity of Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts, a non-profit arts education organization located in north Snohomish County.
