Stroll through Legion Park in downtown Arlington and enjoy displays by local artists during the Art in the Park event Sept. 11 and 12. The annual event, sponsored by Arlington Arts Council, features a special Celebration of the Arts at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.
Art in the Park is in its third year after two years at another location. The fall show offers council members and friends an opportunity to showcase their recent work.
Coordinated by Roberta Baker, participating artists include photographers Roberta and her husband, Kent Baker, along with AAC member photographers Louise Magno, Phil Lane, Sarah Arney and Robert Walters. Other photographers include Joyce Bowley and Mylene Henken, with mixed-media photography by Fran Kaufman.
Pieces by glass artists Beverly Schatz and Celeste Schandal will be on display, along with jewelry by Karen Rust and Karin Martin, wood art by Lucinda VanValkenburg and garden art by Steve Hopkins. Browse through baskets by Reggie Kastler, forged metal sculptures by Carol and Steve Bryant, fiber arts by Judy Sauer, pastels and dream catchers by Dan and Linda Wright and Nickie Balam, reclaimed wood by Judy Hemenway, pastels by Kathy (Mardock) Critchfield, oils and guache by Gary Govett and henna by Tess.
Entertainment is also on the bill, with Saturday's music provided by Impulse Latino from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Paul Nyenhuis 3 to 5 p.m. On Sunday, Stan Shipley plays popular music of the 1940s, '50s and '60s on piano from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by Tony Magno on trumpet from 2 to 4 p.m.
A young harpist from Arlington, Rosalie Boyle, will enhance the Celebration of the Arts.
