The classic tale of "The Elves and the Shoemaker" will be presented for two shows at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. in Everett, on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 and 4 p.m.

Based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, this timeless holiday classic tells the story of a poor shoemaker and his wife struggling to get by. With business slow, the rent past due, and a cold winter taking its toll, it seems things can't possibly get worse.

When the comical villain Wolfgang arrives at the shop, he insists that the poor shoemaker help him capture an elf so he can use the creature's magic. Two elves visiting the Black Forest get caught in the plot and it's up to the kind-hearted shoemaker to do what he knows is right. The elves vow to return the "good human's" kindness, and to save the poor shoemaker and his wife from a cheerless holiday.

"The Elves and the Shoemaker" has been presented by Village Theatre's Pied Piper three times in the past six years, most recently in 2007. Pied Piper manager Erica Weir commented, "This is a delightful winter holiday classic that we rotate through our Pied Piper seasons. The public feedback is always so positive-every time it returns it charms audiences."

The children's performance is produced by California Theatre Center, currently celebrating its 35th season.

One hour prior to curtain for both Dec. 18 performances, youngsters are invited to participate in pre-show arts, crafts, and fun in partnership with Imagine Children's Museum.
