Trinity Lutheran College, a Christian-based liberal arts college, has been creating ties to the community since the campus relocated from Issaquah to downtown Everett in 2008. Part of the school's outreach is the creation of a community drama program, a revamping of TLC's annual Playfest.

For this year's community production, Trinity asked director Scott B. Randall to choose a show and oversee the process.

"We wanted to produce a musical, but with a small cast, limited orchestration and minimal staging," said Randall. "'The Fantasticks' fits all those criteria perfectly, and it's a wonderful story with great music to boot."

The show has a one-weekend run, April 1 through 3, at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby in downtown Everett. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.

"The Fantasticks" is the longest-running Broadway musical in history. It opened in 1960 and audiences enjoyed 17,162 performances before it closed in January 2002. The show has since been revived on Broadway and is once again drawing crowds in the Big Apple, while it also plays in professional theatres around the world.

The musical, which features favorites like "Try to Remember" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain," has also become a staple in community theatres and school productions.

"It has a magical quality," Randall said. "The show has captivated audiences worldwide for more than 40 years, and we're very proud of this local production."

The TLC version of “The Fantasticks” features Matt Holdaway, Leilani Saper, Jeremy Randall, Mike McFadden, Chrissy Kayatta, Leon Holcomb, Melissa Morrow and Michael Young.

This marks the third time Marysville’s Jeremy Randall has been in the show. He has played the roles of Matt and Mortimer, and now tackles the complexities of El Gallo.

General admission tickets are available at the door, and priced at $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students.
