Songs of faith and inspiration in a variety of musical styles are on the bill for the April 22 "Let the Spirit Move You" Hometown Hootenanny, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave. in downtown Everett. The monthly live music show is presented by Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts.
Audience surveys have included requests for a "gospel" show since the Hootenanny's inception in November 2009. The Hometown Band has selected a set of inspirational country and folk songs that include "Three Wooden Crosses" by Randy Travis, "I Believe" by Brooks and Dunn and "We Shall Be Free" by Garth Brooks.
The band will also perform two original compositions by Marysville's Mark Hibbert, music director for the Hootenanny, including an inspirational tribute to Eli Creekmore, an Everett youngster who was tragically killed in 1986.
Local bluegrass bands Mission Mountain Trio and Deer in the Headlights will serve up traditional spiritual favorites with acoustic style and soaring harmonies. The 4-piece Levi Ware Band is scheduled to perform uplifting original compositions from the band's two CDs, and Marysville's Andrew Noble joins the Hometown Band for renditions of his original contemporary Christian songs.
"Our artists have chosen an amazing array of faith-filled songs that manage to inspire without being preachy," said Scott Randall, president of Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts. "It's a perfect evening of music for Good Friday and the Easter weekend."
