As fall approaches, local entertainment calendars begin kicking into high gear. In its first presentation of the season, the Arlington Arts Council brings the big band sound of Route 66 to the Byrnes Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at 7 p.m.

The members of Route 66 swing band have been performing instrumental and vocal music from the swing era, from the 1930s through the '50s, throughout the greater Seattle area for more than 25 years.

Route 66 is comprised of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass and drums. Accompanying the band are vocalists Ingrid DuMosch and Cindy Solvang. The band's repertoire consists of hits by the greats: Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Count Basie and many more.

In 2004, Route 66 recorded their first CD, "Get Your Kicks..." and added a second CD, "Don't Forget Winona," in 2008. You can preview the band's music at http://www.route66swing.com/cdinfo.html.

The Arlington Arts Council presents the concert with help from Arlington's Hotel-Motel Tax fund. Proceeds raised will go towards purchasing public art for Arlington, such as the murals and sculptures along the Centennial Trail.

Tickets are priced at $12 and can be purchased at www.byrnesperformingarts.org or at Flowers by George, 334 N Olympic Avenue, Arlington. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the concert.
