A new showcase for local visual artists will soon open in Marysville, as Ornamental Arts Gallery celebrates its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 13805 Smokey Point Blvd., Suite 105.
Elizabeth and Doug Walter have been reviewing artists' portfolios while overseeing the construction of their new gallery over the past several months. More than 45 northwest artists will be represented in the 1,000-square-foot gallery, which also features a classroom for hands-on activities and lectures.
"We're excited to introduce north Snohomish County to the amazing talent we have here in the northwest," said Elizabeth Walter. "Quite a few of the artists will be on hand for the grand opening, and guests can also enjoy live music all day, ranging from classical and Celtic to Native American wooden flute. We have creative children's activities planned as well."
Gallery visitors will see blown glass by Andy Nichols, handwoven apparel by Kathy Hutchinson, watercolors by John Ebner, masks by Cundy Salisbury and woodcrafts by Lucinda Van Valkenburg, among other artists' works. A rotating exhibition of student art, currently featuring works from Lakewood's Cougar Elementary School, is another permanent gallery feature.
The Walters plan to host classes in photography, watercolor, colored pencil, and even bonsai care at the gallery.
