"How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" is an award-winning play, an excellent movie, and an imaginative musical that runs through April 1 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby in downtown Everett.
The musical comedy demonstrates that business can be a little absurd. The music and lyrics are by Academy Award and Tony Award winner Frank Loesser, and the local production is a first-time collaboration between the Northwest Savoyards and Trinity Lutheran College, directed by Scott B. Randall. "How to Succeed..." features seasoned adult actors alongside talented students, bringing new life and energy to this American classic.
Josh Zimmerman provides musical direction for the local production, with choreography by Kelly Charlton.
Enjoyed by generations in various versions, the production is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and its second year as a new Broadway production.
The show's ambitious, adorable hero, J. Pierrepont Finch (James Frasca), finds his own creative way to climb the corporate ladder. Finch is advised that while having an education, intelligence, and ability is best, "...remember that thousands have reached the top without them. You, too, can be among the lucky few."
Clerks and executives alike continue their individual attempts to arrive at the highest level of corporate achievement. Finch has us laughing and jabbing each other as he enjoys a riotous ascent to the top, leaving his would-be-colleagues in the proverbial dust.
"How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" has performances Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. through April 1. All performances are at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave, Everett.
