Among Friends
By Mary Lou Sanelli
($15.00, Aequitos Books)

Among FriendsA good friendship is worth the effort. Mary Lou Sanelli has a lot to say about friendship, and she does so fearlessly in her latest book, "Among Friends."

She ponders the elements of a particularly good friendship and a few that begin and end like a sparkler on the Fourth of July, from exciting intensity to fizzle. In chapters interspersed with poems dedicated to friends, metaphors flow like spilled honey as she declares "restraint rises like a blister" and "We put too much yeast in the dough ... Our friendship rose too fast ... and fell flat."

The author reads from her essays and published columns weekly on KSER (90.7 FM) public radio in Everett. Once you've heard her, it's easy to feel like she's looking over your shoulder, reading aloud from her book. You can also experience this as she reads at The Bookworks on Wednesday, July 22, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Bring your girlfriends for wine and tidbits...Among Friends.
