On Saturday, Aug. 29 at about 2:04 am Marysville police responded to a vehicle into a residence in the 8400 block of 55th Ave. There were several 911 calls reporting the collision. From those calls police learned that a bicyclist was also struck by this vehicle prior to the collision into the residence.
When officers arrived they immediately began giving aid to a 25-year-old Marysville man who resided in the complex. It appeared that this male was riding his bike home when he was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle continued on at a high rate of speed crashing into the bedroom of a residence, narrowly missing a large propane tank.
Inside the residence a 97-year-old Marysville woman, who was in bed, was struck and killed by the vehicle. Another occupant of the residence was unharmed. The 1971 Chevrolet Impala involved in the accident was completely embedded into the residence. “There is no doubt that excessive high speeds played a role in this tragedy” said Sgt. Davis of the Marysville Collision Investigation unit.
The 25-year-old man was transported to Providence Medical Center, Colby Campus in Everett with serious life threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was a 42-year-old man who identified himself as living in Marysville. Officers’ initial investigation suggested that the driver may have been under the influence at the time of the collision. That aspect of the investigation is ongoing. A routine records check showed the suspect’s driving status was suspended or revoked in the 2nd degree at the time of the collision. The driver was transported to Providence Medical Center, Colby Campus with non-life threatening injuries. Upon his release Sunday afternoon he was transferred to the Snohomish County Jail and booked on two felonies, Vehicular Homicide - Reckless Driving and Vehicular Assault.
The Marysville Police Department Collision Investigation Unit, (CIU) and Detectives were called out for the investigation. Roadways in the area were partially shut down and the on scene investigation continued into Sunday afternoon, before the vehicle was removed and secured as evidence.
The investigation is considered an active investigation and anyone with information on the collision or witnessed anything related to the vehicle or collision is asked to contact the Marysville Police Department Sgt. Davis at 360.363. 8380
